Waterproofing???
« on: April 23, 2006, 18:26:38 »
On our way back from some green laning the other day we dropped by a "local" ford to have a wash from the mud, and because its fun!!

Anyway - it was pretty deep compared to normal and fast flowing but undeterred we trundled into the water, no problem there, and made it through safely however we did suffer some water ingress because the water level was up above the door handle on the passenger side!

How can we prevent this ingress as there is a gap on both sides of my 90 where you can see daylight!!! No ammount of adjustment of the doors is going to get rid of it so any suggestions???

How do the military keep water out of their wolf vehicles?

If it's that deep (as in amphibious landings) they don't!
The tail-gate is wedged open , or removed, in order to allow it to 'sink' & retain traction.
Plus they're not worried about carpets, seats, trim, etc........ getting wet

Ok so the milly dont care - or for that matter even have carpets to care about, but i do! i also carry lots of valuable not very waterproof kit on a lot of trips so prefer to keep the water out!!

I thought about expanding foam filler but its not practical for more than one application :p

The advice has been already given either don't wade that deep or get a Pelican case to put all your non-waterproof valuables in.

If crossing a river in flood with a current you will want your 90 to leak like a sive. You wait till it fills up the footwells and then cross. This way you won't be floating off downstream or worse tipping over.

Cheers

Steve

I can go better still, I had my 109" float in a deep fast ford once and it spun 90 degrees and nearly went down stream!
