a 1968 Series 2a :)

I've only ever owned anything with green ovals on, and never owned a pair of green overalls, or green wellies, well, not entirely true, I had a pair of green wellies, but they had little fogs eyes on them and I was around 6, so I should be forgiven that one...

My first car was a 1964 Triumph Herald modified with disc brakes and Ford Escort 1600 sport cross flow kent engine with high lift cam and four branch manifold.
The body was a two seater spartan, soft-top sports car, it had alloy wheels, and a tow bar.

This was bought in 1997 and would have cost me £750 to insure I feel sorry for the new drivers who have to pay £2000 for a fiesta!!!

Unfortuantely it was too rotten so I gave it away a year later!
and had to make do with a rustin metro which wet through two engines and several engine mounts and sub frame mounts in the time I had it it had Over size alloys and a 2" lift!! which made handling really tight, articulation was not bad, but it gave up the ghost on a roundabout when the axle king pins sheared and front wheel came off.

All good experiance though.

1984 Volvo 340GLE All my mates had tiddly little 1.0l cars and I had a HOOOGE 1.7L engine

Shame the car also weighed twice as much as my mates cars.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

My first car was actually the 1980 2CV6 I learnt to drive in, and then was given a year or so later. Think "For Your Eyes Only", but right hand drive, and less dents on the bonnet :D

I'd owned a couple of cars of my own (mini, Chevette) before getting my hands on it again, but it was great to get the yellow peril back after the Chevette was scrapped.

Probably got some photos somewhere of when Mum had the 2cv before I got hold of it but they're early 80's, so I'll spare her the embarrassment of her fabulous perm being all over the internet

Cheers

y reg mk 1 fiesta - i loved that car strated first time and went anywhere, but alas like most 18 year olds i wrote it off, driving back from scotland at the end of a work placement for my degree - id worked till 4 in the morning then got in the car at 6 and started driving home and alas fell asleep somewhere around peterborough,
the upside was the guy i hit had no insurance so i didnt claim on that one and plus by the time i arrived home daddy dearest had aquired a d reg 309 which was a big plus cos i could get my fishing tackle in with no worries

god i love my dad, however he may have been a little selfish in his descision as the nature of my degree involved really early mornings and late nights plus the fact it was a 70 mile round trip to college and random timings so i think he did it for the sake of his sanity

I had 2!!  A 1983 Escort 1.3L with full XR3 kit and wheels (sad I know) and my 1971 VW beetle 1200 which was lowered, had dragstar wheels, 1960's wings and headlights, 1641cc engine with twin 40 weber carbs, metallic dark purple/red, and yes I do miss it, had it for 8 years but got offered £2K for it with no MOT, no tax, engine barely running (exchange 1200 lump as my 1641 ceased up!!), I couldn't say no to that kind of money, plus it meant I could buy the Porsche

Hi,

learnt to drive in my first car - a morris maxi (advertised as the car that you could put a double mattress in the back of  )

drove it until it died - you could tell the regular travelers in it - they held the choke out saving me the trouble of putting the peg on it.

it was an M reg (i think this makes it a 1973 vehicle) and i had it in 1984
