winch wieght
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:00:35 »
looking at winches.

wanting one for self rescue and pulling the odd landy out and the odd bit of stump pulling.

so firstly how  much line pull would i need given my truck only weighs 1820 kg in road trim with me in it?

second as i want to keep my overall weight down are there any brands that are phyisically lighter than the others whilst still being durable and in any case what is an average weight for one, 100kg?

cheers.

You want a winch which is capable of pulling on a single line pull, 1.5 times the gross weight of your car. The average winch weight I would think is probably 4-0 - 50kg, not including bumper.

I've got a Superwinch (I think, I ralwey see it) EPi9 and I can barely lift it.  It sits on a back rack so I can drop it onto a towball.

If you aren't going axle deep you may get away with a 6,000lb winch :-k  if so make sure you carry at least one pulley block.
