My brother just gave it up  ;) no money left in it, when people offer 10 lessons for £100
Also lots of people spending redundancy and taking courses so too many around if you are thinking of trying it.

Why?

Do you think that's a Derbyshire/Midlands issue of "overcrowding" or a national issue?

Well lets put it this way, there is no £100 for 10 lessons up here, cheapest around is about £23 per lesson!

Could be just local, see what other replies are posted and check yellow pages etc. My brother went with the 3 big companies, AA RAC and Bill Plant, people were cancelling at the last minute, saying they cant afford it, cant drive.... been out on beer night before etc.
with bill plant people would call him and ask if they had the first cheap lessons they had to have more after.  Also he found that people bought the cheap lesson deal for a present and the pupil coulkd not afford full price lessons.
What they charge you for the car/back up made my eyes water

Ya

Just qualified looking at starting doing it part time. Looked at the franchise route and definitely not the way for me to go. I think the overcrowding is an issue for most areas, i put it down to RED and their TV adverts.
life's to short to drive crap.

Yeap, never made any serious money out of it, too many instructors cutting each others throats, too many pupils wanting something for nothing or messing me about.
